Good news came for the city of Troy this week, though it’s hardly a surprise: Troy has been ranked as the safest Michigan city, and the nineteenth safest in the country. (source) What residents of Troy have known for a long time is that the city’s high quality of life and low crime rates make for a very comfortable life. The C&Q report specifies that Troy has the lowest crime rate for cities with a population between 75,000 and 99,999.
For those of us who live in Troy or have spent any time there, this recognition only makes sense: this past year, the city’s financial performance and fire department were honored, as well as the director of the Troy Public Library, who was recognized by the Michigan Library Association. The Beaumont hospital in Troy was also recognized as the 5th best hospital in Southeast Michigan by US News and World Report. (You can read more about what Troy accomplished in 2011 in Mayor Daniels’ “State of the City” address, which you can download here.) There are many more awards and recognitions, too many to write about here, so be sure you take a look at the report.
Safety isn’t the only thing that makes Troy a great place to live, though it is certainly an important element. Troy schools are among the best, receiving an “A+” rating from the Detroit News and enjoying recognition from US News and World Report for being among the top 5% in the nation. (Read more at the Troy School District’s website). Troy also enjoys an active and engaging Parks program.
