Traditionally, home sales warm up around this time of year as well, so it’s the perfect time of the year to do whatever it takes to whip a home into selling shape.</p>
<p>Just a few quick reminders: we’ve written about these before, but these tips for preparing a home to sell are tried-and-true, and worth repeating.</p>
<ul>
<li>Remember, you want potential buyers to see themselves living in your home, so create an environment for them that’s clean, friendly, and devoid of things personal to your family like photos or knick knacks.</li>
<li>Even if your house is sparkling clean, anything less than a fresh atmosphere will leave buyers with a bad impression. Eliminate odors at the source.</li>
<li>If anything needs fixing, now is the time. Cracks, stains, leaks and anything that’s falling apart will turn off buyers. Most of the time repairs fall on the seller anyway, so you may as well get a head start.</li>
<li>Make sure that the outside of your home is as beautiful as the inside. Curb appeal is important and buyers will start judging your property the minute they lay eyes on it.</li>
</ul>
<p>The warmer weather brings back one summer tradition that can help you kill two birds with one stone: the garage sale. If you have a lot of stuff and are looking to get rid of extra items while making extra money, then a garage sale is the perfect option&#8211;and you can always donate what you don’t sell. The point is to clear out anything that could clutter your home when you show it to potential buyers and make the task of moving house easier. <p>Happily, our state is also seeing <a href="http://www.freep.com/article/20120429/BUSINESS06/204290545/Real-signs-of-economic-recovery-bloom-across-Michigan">improvements in our economy</a> this season, with unemployment levels receding and real estate inventory decreasing. Job search support groups are dwindling as fewer and fewer people need them, and Real Estate One has seen great reports for the last few months. As we head into the tourism season we continue to look for <a href="http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120504/BIZ/205040412/Numbers-looking-up-summer-tourism-Michigan?odyssey=mod%7Cnewswell%7Ctext%7CFRONTPAGE%7Cp">good news</a>, and look forward to sharing it with you!</p>
